Virgin Excavated Natural Material (VENM) Guidelines

VENM is defined by the EPA of NSW as material consisting of clay, soil and crushed rock which is not contaminated or mixed with any other material.

The receipt of VENM at Kimbriki Recycling and Waste Disposal Centre is subject to the guidelines as defined by the EPA.

Therefore VENM cannot contain contaminants such as grass, concrete, bricks, broken pipes, building material or foreign matter that you would not expect to find in natural excavated material.

In some instances, especially with material excavated near the beach, shells etc may be present. This matter would be considered to be naturally occurring and would be acceptable as VENM.

The same scenario would apply to crushed rock. Some rocks may be present but in general the material would be of a soil nature.

Should contaminants be present in the load then the customers will be advised that mixed waste rates will apply.

In some instance it may not be possible to establish whether a load contains contaminants until the load has been deposited on the site. In these instances the customer will be made aware of the Kimbriki Guidelines and advised that mixed waste rates will be incurred if the deposited load is found to contain contamination.

Determination as to whether the material is designated as VENM will be performed by the site centre attendants.
