Warringah Council is preparing a Healthy Ageing Strategy to help it meet the needs of our ageing population. The Strategy will consider the policies, projects, facilities and services that Council needs to have in place to enhance the quality of life and well-being of older people and support them to lead active, healthy and independent lives as they age.
The community is invited to have their say about seniors' independent living, meaningful participation in the community, healthy lifestyles, care and support services, at:
- Forestville RSL, Wednesday 16 May, 9.30am - 12pm OR
- Dee Why RSL, Friday 18 May, 9.30am - 12pm
- Engagement with carers: Cromer Community Centre, Monday 21 May, 10am - 12pm
Morning tea provided. RSVP at council@warringah.nsw.gov.au or 9942 2111
If you are unable to attend the above community engagements, please assist us by filling in our Healthy Ageing Strategy online survey by Friday 25 May.
Alcohol Free Zones and Alcohol Prohibited Areas
Warringah Council is seeking public comment from 1 May to 1 June 2012 on its proposal for new Alcohol Prohibited Areas (APA) and Alcohol Free Zones (AFZ). Council proposes to create APAs in all public parks, reserves and beaches in Warringah from 10pm until 8am, with the exception of Walter Gors Park in Dee Why and Queenscliff Headland where, due to a history of daytime anti-social behaviour, the APA would be in place 24 hours per day.
By having all parks and reserves in Warringah with a similar restriction it will allow Police to have some consistency across the area in dealing with issues.
A number of Alcohol Free Zones are also proposed for renewal as well as a small number of new ones proposed for creation. These AFZ’s would be in place for 4 years.
Comments should be in writing and addressed to:
Projects Coordinator,
Warringah Council,
725 Pittwater Rd,
Dee Why NSW 2099 or by email to council@warringah.nsw.gov.au by close of business Friday 1 June.
Forestville Park - draft Plan of Management
Warringah Council is seeking comment on the draft Forestville Park Plan of Management. This Plan of Management covers several parcels of land making up Forestville Park. The draft Plan has been developed through community consultation and identifies community values associated with the reserve. Council’s primary management intention for the reserve is to conserve and restore bushland, protect significant biodiversity, environmental features and cultural heritage items, while maintaining low impact recreational access. The draft Plan may be of interest to residents and those who use the Park for recreation.
The main issues are:
- Weeds
- Tracks and access
- Private encroachments into bushland
- Bushland condition
- Feral animals
- Stormwater
- Dumping
- Habitat values
- Heritage values
- Use of the reserve
Management actions in the plan include bush regeneration, pest control, track consolidation, boundary delineation and improved signage.
The draft ‘Mountain Biking in Warringah: Research and Directions’ paper and the draft Forestville Park POM (prepared by Warringah Council) allow for the retention of two mountain bike trails within Forestville Park – one being a fire trail and the other being an informal track. The draft Plan is not allowing for any further creation of mountain bike tracks.
The draft Plan of Management will be on public exhibition from 30 April to 10 June 2012 and can be viewed at the following locations:
