Support for further community gardens

Warringah Council recently conducted a telephone survey and online discussion forum to gauge community support for more community gardens in Warringah. Both the survey and forum indicated a high level of support for more community gardens.

To provide a framework for considering future requests for community gardens, Council has developed a Draft Community Gardens Policy and Draft Guidelines for establishing community gardens in Warringah, which are both on public exhibition until 10 February, 2012. Your comments are welcome.

Community gardens promote the sharing of tasks, learning from one another’s knowledge and the swapping of produce and recipes.

Warringah's first official community garden is at 4-8 Innes Road, Manly Vale. It is an exciting community space aimed at bringing children, families and neighbours together to enjoy and learn to live more sustainably.

The park has been developed with junior and senior play areas and includes a playground and community garden with individual and shared garden plots. It also provides a central shelter where community workshops take place. See the Manly Vale Community Garden Inc website for current information on workshops.
