Warringah Council worked closely with the NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) (formerly Land and Property Management Authority) and the community to develop the Narrabeen Lagoon draft Plan of Management (Draft Plan).

The primary objective of the Draft Plan is the sustainable management and conservation of Narrabeen Lagoon. The Draft Plan provides a management framework for Warringah Council as reserve Trust manager of Narrabeen Lagoon to sustainably manage and conserve this important natural and recreational asset.

The Draft Plan provides 29 broad principle based management actions which focus on the protection of aquatic habitat, amenity, water quality, flood mitigation and sustainable recreation.

Specific actions and sub plans can be developed in the future, in keeping with the broad principles of the Draft Plan, when they become necessary and have sufficient funding.

Consultation and engagement with the community was an important aspect in developing the Draft Plan which was undertaken in stages and involved online discussion forums, community workshops and a public exhibition.

A Values, Issues and Options Paper was prepared that documents a range of management strategies to address the issues and support the values identified through initial consultation with the community. The Values, Issues and Options Paper was publicly exhibited for comment between 19 November 2010 and 14 January 2011.

The final stage of consultation involved apublic exhibition of the Draft Plan. Submissions are currently being reviewed and considered. Once the Plan is finalised it will be submitted for Ministerial approval.
