- Warringah Council maintains 127 sportsfields, which is 70% of sportsfields on the northern beaches. 22,000 players from across the wider region use these fields.
Council has responded to community submissions about sportsfields and budgeted for more than $3 million in improvements to sporting grounds in 2011/2012. This includes a new synthetic surface, work on creating an extra oval and lights at Cromer as well as lighting improvements across Warringah - Council is spending $2 million on sportsfield maintenance in 2011/12 which includes mowing, line marking, returfing, top dressing, aeration and maintaining equipment.
- The 2011/2012 sportsfield levy will be $11 for juniors and $14.40 for seniors per season and includes training and game time
- Council receives a small percentage of the total registration fees players pay per season to sporting unions, which can be over $190 for junior and $310 for senior players.
Council recoups less than 15% of maintenance costs, with ratepayers subsidising the remaining 85%. This approach helps Council improve the quality of fields for all players
