Coastal Erosion Emergency Action Plan

Warringah Council is currently preparing a Coastal Erosion Emergency Action Plan (CEEAP) for Warringah’s beaches.  This Action Plan will identify risks associated with coastal erosion and outline which emergency action measures can and should be undertaken by Council, landowners and the SES during emergency coastal erosion events. The Action Plan will stipulate what residents can and can’t do during major erosion events and will also provide guidance on how to be better prepared when this does occur. Council has engaged the professional services of WorleyParsons Pty Ltd to prepare the Action Plan on Council’s behalf.

Public Forum

On 29 August 2010, Council hosted a Coastal Erosion Emergency Action Plan Forum at Long Reef Golf Club to inform the community about the CEEAP and seek input into its development.  Over 150 participants of the Forum heard presentations given from Council, WorleyParsons Pty Ltd, the NSW Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water and the State Emergency Services.  Attendees also participated in a half hour panel discussion with the presenters.  The proceedings of the Forum were recorded and can be listened to by clicking on the podcast above. The Forum agenda and presentations given on the day are also available for viewing by clicking on the icons below.

Further community consultation regarding the Coastal Erosion Emergency Action Plan will be taking place in the near future.  If you have any enquiries regarding the development of the CEEAP, please contact Council’s Natural Environment Unit on (02) 9942 2111.
