Pest Species
Page Updated: April 3, 2012

Pest species are noxious or environmental weeds and feral animals. These plants and animals have been brought from their natural environment into a foreign environment and escaped into the wild.
Feral Animals
Feral animals have successfully flourished in Australia owing to few or no natural predators. Feral animals out compete native species for food and shelter and have contributed to the dramatic decline in native species populations. More on feral animals.
Noxious Weeds
Noxious and environmental weeds threaten the biodiversity in the natural environment. Some weeds cause severe land degradation while others produce vast quantities of seed, resulting in their out-competing or smothering native plants. More on noxious weeds.
