The Powerful Owl (Ninox strenua) is a very large bird, growing up to 60cm. It is a top order predator in its habitat and feeds on other birds such as magpies and currawongs, and mammals such as flying foxes, ringtail and brushtail possums, and greater gliders.

Powerful Owl pairs occupy a large home range in mountain forests, gullies, and forest margins in coastal areas in south-east Australia.

It has golden coloured eyes and a mottled grey-brown and white plumage. It has powerful yellow talons. The picture here is of juvenile Powerful Owls.
