Some of our rare and wonderful creatures in Warringah include Powerful Owls, Heath Monitors, Glossy Black Cockatoos, Red Crowned Toadlets and Eastern Pygmy Possums.
We are surveying bushland in Warringah to establish what native species are living here. By mapping the locations of the plant and animals we find, we can better protect them in the future.
Specialised, hi-tech equipment is used in the surveys and includes:
- Infra-red cameras to record animals at night
- Pygmy possum nest box deployment and monitoring
- Ultrasonic recording equipment to record the ultrasonic frequencies of bat calls and convert them into audio sound for identification
- Owl call playback which plays owl recordings to encourage owls to respond
