Media Release - Council Restructure to Deliver Greater Efficiency

February 15, 2012

Warringah Council has restructured its main departments, creating greater efficiency and an immediate saving of $3 million over ten years.

The Council's three major business units have been realigned into two divisions: Environment and Community.

Malcolm Ryan (current Deputy GM Environment and Community Services) will be the new Deputy General Manager of Environment and John Warburton (current Deputy GM, Corporate Services) will be Deputy General Manager of Community.

Finance and Human Resources will now directly report to General Manager, Rik Hart - consistent with many best practice models of high achieving organisations.

The changes will take effect immediately.

Two currently vacant positions, Deputy General Manager Strategic and Development Services and, Business Manager Community and Environmental Services, have been absorbed.

"The last community survey showed that more than two-thirds of locals are happy with Council’s overall performance – which is an increase on previous years. Over the same period, virtually all indicators of Council staff satisfaction have increased significantly. This is a great endorsement of the current management," said General Manager, Rik Hart.

"The new structure also allows a more natural synergy between areas of council that perform similar functions and will produce better results for Warringah’s community and environment.

“This is another example of Warringah Council’s policy of continuous improvement delivering benefits for ratepayers,” he added.

In 2011, Warringah’s Annual Community Survey found that more than two-thirds or 67% of locals were satisfied with Council’s overall performance - a rise of 10% on the previous year. Over the same time resident’s satisfaction with Council staff rose from 75% to 79%.
