Media Alert - Dangerous Surf Warning
Warringah's lifeguards will be on a high alert Thursday, 12 January as waves of up to three metres are forecast to hit the coast.
The Bureau of Meteorology says a low pressure system in the Bass Strait will create a large southerly swell along New South Wales.
The swell is forecast to peak on Thursday afternoon – as sunny weather attracts school holiday crowds to Warringah's beaches.
"The swell could be up to three metres, with a period of 10-12 seconds, so we're asking everyone to stay off rock shelves and take care elsewhere along the beach," said Beach Services Manager, Clinton Rose.
"It's likely to be a sunny day, so parents, please watch your children," he added.
It's been a busy start to the year for Warringah Council's lifeguards, with 280 rescues performed in the first week of 2012.
