2012 Youth Exchange

Warringah Council is looking for six enthusiastic young people aged between 14 and 19 to be the 2012 Warringah Youth Ambassadors. This involves a trip to our Sister City, the outback town of Brewarrina, in the July school holidays - between 29 June and 6 July. All transport, accommodation and activities will be provided free. Two Warringah Council representatives will be leading the group.

Sister Cities Youth Exchange Program

The Youth Exchange Program consists of six young people from Warringah spending a week in Brewarrina in the winter school holidays and a reciprocal visit by Brewarrina young people in the summer school holidays.

Activities in previous years have included visiting Lightning Ridge, learning about Aboriginal language and culture, seeing the 40,000-year-old Aboriginal Fish Traps, visiting Old Mission Station, farm stay accommodation, fishing, making and throwing boomerangs, visiting Aboriginal art sites, a paddle boat ride on the Darling River, swimming at hot bore baths, spending the day at a sheep station, and experiencing the outback in a unique way.

Sister Cities Agreement

Warringah Council signed the Sister Cities Agreement in 2000 with Brewarrina Shire Council to promote friendship between the beach and bush communities and allow a greater understanding of the issues facing each area. Both councils agreed that one way to achieve this was through a youth exchange, where young people meet, form friendships and learn about each others' lives and communities.
