History of the Brookvale Show
The Brookvale Show began in 1921. It was an agricultural and horticultural show that was widely seen as a rehearsal for the Royal Easter Show. Brookvale and surrounding areas were mainly farm land and farmers used to the events to showcase their produce and livestock. The first show also included a “Walk, Trot and Gallop” race between councillors and aldermen.
Over the next few decades, the Show became hugely popular and went over three days and two nights. In 1961, a crowd of 30,000 watched displays such as Australia’s largest ferris wheel, trotting, marching girls and surf lifesaving displays.
