Citizenship Ceremonies

Citizenship CeremoniesWarringah Council is committed to supporting residents who want to become Australian citizens. Each month we host a ceremony, inviting family and friends to come and celebrate the ocasion. The following dates are scheduled for citizenship ceremonies:

Monday 23 November, 6pm*

Monday 14 December, 6pm*

Tuesday 26 January (Australia Day), 1pm*

Invitations are sent to candidates by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship approximately three weeks before the ceremony. In outstanding circumstances please contact the Department of Immigration and Citizenship on ph. 131 880.

Christmas by the Beach

christmas by the beachSanta Claus will be dropping in to Dee Why Beach on Sunday 13 December to share Christmas spirit with Warringah. Dee Why Beach Reserve will be transformed into a Christmas market between 10am and 6pm. Kids will be entertained by festive characters and music, and will be visited by Santa Claus between 3-5pm.

 

Australia Day

Australia DayWarringah celebrates Australia Day with a huge community breakfast at Dee Why, Narrabeen, and Forestville.

Over 700 volunteers take part in the organisation and running of this event which attracts over 30,000 people each year.

  • Dee Why Beach Reserve will come alive with Australian home-grown music and fun for all the family.
  • Melwood Oval, Forestville will showcase the best of the bush with bush bands and kart racing for kids of all ages.
  • Berry Reserve, Narrabeen will be transformed into a kids carnival with circus tricks and activities.
  • Governor Philip Lookout, Beacon Hill will serve tea and damper while you enjoy the spectaular views.


Warringah Council also organises the Australia Day Awards including Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year (27 years and under) and the Community Event of the Year. The awards aim to celebrate values such as the pursuit of excellence, commitment to a tolerant and diverse society, a fair go and public service. Nominations open in October every year. The 2010 Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony will be held at Warringah Council, Civic Centre, Civic Drive, Dee Why at 1pm. Online nomination form.

Music in March

Music in March - Samba on the SandDee Why Beach and Berry Reserve Narrabeen were trasformed into a musical stage on Sundays throughout March in 2009. Each event had a different  theme and included music, speakers, entertainment and activities. The events incoporated International Women's Day, Seniors' Week and Community Services.

 

Guringai Festival

Guringai FestivalEvery year Council hosts an event to support the Guringai Festival in June which is a celebration of Aboriginal culture and heritage. The aim of the festival is to promote reconciliation and friendship between indigenous and non-indigenous people. In 2009, the Guringai Festival was celebrated at Glen Street Theatre with a variety of activities including didgeridoo lessons, story telling, mural workshops, a traditional smoking ceremony and a rainbow serpent parade. ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day

ANZAC Day ServiceIn conjunction with the Manly Warringah War Memorial Trust, ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day are commemorated on the shores of beautiful Manly Dam every year. The events aim to involve local school children and create a special occasion for the children to learn about Australia's military history.

 

KidsPlay

KidsPlayKidsPlay is an innovative program developed by Glen Street Theatre offering kids and families the opportunity to experience the dramatic and creative arts. Warringah Council's Events team works with Glen Street Theatre to create free family fun days - such as Possum Magic, Dinosaur for a Day and Fairies and Pirates Picnic - based around KidsPlay stage productions which provide access and equity for the community to cultural activities. Possum Magic

possum magicThis magical day celebrated 25 years of author Mem Fox's children's classic Possum Magic and featured fun games and activiteis based around the performance of Possum Magic the Musical.

 

Dinosaur for a Day

Dinosuar for a DayThe Dinosaur for a Day festival included a puppet workshop, dinosaur discovery tour, dinosaur storytelling, crocodile encounters and the creation of a giant-sized dinosaur.

 

Fairies and Pirates Picnic

Fairies and Pirates Picnic This enchanting day saw Glen Street Theatre and Belrose Library transformed into a fairy wonderland and pirate cove. The event combined elements of the stage production The Fairy Princess Surprise Party.

 

Warringah Art Exhibition 2009

Warringah Art Exhibition 2009The Warringah Art Exhibition provides an important opportunity for artists to showcase their work to the public in a professional gallery. Prizes are awarded in various categories and in 2009 a new category, 'Waste to Art', was created which attracted new artists to the competition. International Day of Peace

Peace ParkSeptember 21 marks the International Day of Peace and Council celebrates this with a free community event at the historic Oxford Falls Peace Park. Once the site of a one-roon bush school, this centre was turned into a Peace Park in 1995 to mark the 50th anniversary of the end of WWII. In 2009 the International Day of Peace was celebrated with a free yoga session, singing in harmony with an a Capella choir, making origami paper cranes and guest speakers offering their views on peace.
