Opening hours: 7.45am to 5.45pm Monday to Friday

Philosophy

At Narrabeen Children’s Centre we view ourselves as a community, and we strive to build a sense of place and belonging for all the families who walk through our door.

  • Our curriculum style is emergent, and we embrace the principles outlined in the Early Years Learning Framework and the NSW Curriculum Framework for Children’s Services as we believe that these documents support the staff to extend and enrich the children’s learning.  Our staff work as a team and are committed to establishing a culture of enquiry, and our journey is in collaboration with the children with the purpose of building a foundation for learning.  It is within this framework of relationships and interactions that staff are able to act as facilitators, believing that children drive their own learning, centred around rich, meaningful experiences which have real implication in their life and into their future.
  • We view children as competent, full of wonder, committed to relationships, willing to investigate, critique, reflect and collaborate.  This image of the child guides our planning and decision making and we have a deep faith in the children we teach.  We encourage equity, a right to fair treatment for the individual and for groups regardless of personal characteristics, circumstances or origins.  This right includes taking action when inequity exists.
  • We embrace the diversity of family structures and our staff accept parents as the primary care givers and experts when it comes to their children.  Our staff endeavour to build strong partnerships with families in order to develop confidence and trust to establish a sharing of information to enhance the children’s learning.

The Program

Children come to our Service with a uniqueness that is a combination of their family background, culture, experiences, needs, interests and strengths. The Centre provides individual developmentally appropriate programs for all the children based on observations and discussions with families. Staff program daily for indoor and outdoor activities aimed at motivating, stimulating, challenging and extending the skills of the children in our care. Parents are welcome to take advantage of ongoing developmental meetings with staff to discuss their child’s progress and areas of concern. Staff are happy to explain how these educational programs are developed and implemented.

Parent Participation

We welcome family participation in the Centre and provide regular meetings where parents can provide input into decision making. Parents are also welcome to join a committee to help with activities such as fundraising.

Accreditation

Narrabeen Children's Centre is accredited under the Quality Improvement and Accreditation System administered by the National Childcare Accreditation Council who are an independent government body operating to monitor the quality of childcare services nationally. A copy of the Centre’s quality profile can be viewed at the Centre.
