Public Cleansing

Warringah Council has a comprehensive cleaning program aimed at preventing pollution and maintaining the health and amenity of public places.
Council removes litter from most shopping centres daily. Smaller shopping centres have litter removed at least once a week or as required. Dee Why CBD is cleaned seven days a week from 5am. Footpaths are cleaned by machine and kerbs and gutters with a street-sweeping truck. Council strives to minimise noise levels during cleaning.
Council has a cleaning program to remove stains, grease and gum from paved footpath areas in shopping centres. The nature of this work requires it to be done at night or in the early morning. Council apologises if this causes any inconvenience.
Warringah's beaches are raked on a weekly basis during summer and monthly over the winter period. The beach-raking tractor removes most litter from the beach surface. Seaweed that is washed on the beach occurs naturally and is not removed. Fishermans Beach is not raked due to the rock platform beneath.
Litter is removed weekly from large ovals including Killarney, Melwood, Lionel Watts, Terrey Hills, Millers, David Thomas, Passmore, Nolan, Harbord, Abbott Road Grounds, Beacon Hill, St Matthews Farm, Cromer Park, Griffith Oval and Collaroy Plateau. Smaller reserves are cleaned as required.
Council removes litter from bus shelters on major thoroughfares weekly or on request. Council-owned shelters are washed monthly. To report litter or vandalism call 9942 2111. Advertising bus shelters are cleaned and maintained by Adshell. All faults, including broken glass, at these shelters should be reported to Adshell on 1800 501 402.
Please report incidents of graffiti first to the Police and then to our Graffiti Hotline 9942 2111. Council endeavours to remove graffiti on Council property within five days of receiving the report. In some instances graffiti on private property is removed if it is on a street frontage and below 3m.
Council sweeps most residential streets that have kerb and guttering every 10 weeks. To maintain this schedule street sweepers must bypass sections of the street where cars are parked. Streets that are constantly parked out or that are not swept under the schedule for other reasons are dealt with as required. Requests for extra sweeping are prioritised on a risk basis.
Dead Animals on Public Property
Council will remove dead animals from public property if reported to our Customer Service Centre on 9942 2111. Domestic animals are scanned for microchip identification so owners can be notified. Animals are disposed of immediately therefore cannot be recovered by owners. Council does not remove dead animals from private property. Residents should contact their local vet for assistance.
Warringah has six rockpools which are all cleaned regularly except for North Curl Curl.
Rockpools are closed to the public during cleaning times.
