Responsible Cat Ownership

Caring for all animals
Cats are hunters and an important factor in the decline of our native animal populations. Curfews, desexing and bells alone are not effective in protecting our native animals.
What you can do
- Warringah Council strongly encourages all cat owners to keep their pets indoors at night.
- Do not feed stray cats.
- Be responsible for your cat at holiday times.
- Report any injured native animals to a wildlife rehabilitation organisation such as WIRES or the Sydney Metropolitan Wildlife Service.
- In order to protect our precious native wildlife, Council has declared some areas of bushland 'wildlife protection areas.' Cats and dogs are prohibited at all times. All areas are signposted and residents are asked to assist Council by keeping their pets away from these areas.
