National Relay Service
The National Relay Service provides assistance for people with hearing or speech impairment. Call 133 677 and a telephone 'interpreter' will relay your call (via voice, TTY, modem) to and from the Warringah Disability Information Service.
LINCS Community and Disability Information Database
LINCS provides contact details and descriptions of community services across Warringah, the Sydney metropolitan region and beyond. The database identifies those organisations that service and support everyone in the community, including special groups such as older adults, people with a disability, youth and people of a multicultural background. For information or to let us know of any changes to the database information
contact Council's Disability Information Officer on
9942 2686 or email janzm@warringah.nsw.gov.au
The Access Awards recognise local businesses, individuals and community organisations who are improving access for all members of the public. At celebrations of the International Day of People with a Disability, winners receive a plaque from Council acknowledging their commitment to access. The information brochure and nomination form below are for 2007; the updated brochure will be available in September 2008 and you are invited to make a nomination for the Warringah Council Access Awards.
Missed Business
Access and your customers - In Australia 3.9 million people, or 20% of the population, have a reported disability. In Warringah 24,000 people, or 18% of the population, are identified as having a disability. If you include their friends and family, the number of people affected by a disability is even bigger, and every one is a potential customer. This means that at least 48,000 local people need to consider some level of disability in the way they live, shop and socialise.
Liberty Swing
Council installed the Liberty Swing in the Collaroy recreation park for wheelchair users to access with the MLAK key. Council also provides access ramps and grab rails for pools, submersible and Freewheeler wheelchairs, disabled parking, wheelchair accessible paths to the Surf Club, toilet, pool showers and pool. The MLAK key to access the disabled toilet and Liberty Swing is available from the Lifeguard Room at the NE corner of the Collaroy Surf Club building.

Disability Services
Each Council has staff who identify and respond to comments, queries and concerns raised by residents, and bring these to the Council's attention. They provide information, make referrals, hold consultations, and generally plan and coordinate to improve quality and availability of services for residents.
