Council provides four Long Day Care centres throughout Warringah to care for children from birth to six years. Priority is given to parents working, seeking employment or studying. Long Day Care hours of operation vary between centres but are generally between 7.30am and 6pm.

Our centres offer an educational program developed from individual observations of children's needs and interests. All centres operate under National Accreditation principals and State licensing regulations.

All centres employ trained staff. Their qualifications include:

  • Associate Diploma childcare studies
  • Early childhood teachers
  • Early childhood specialists

The staff to child ratios in our centres are:

  • 0-2 years – minimum one carer for every four children
  • 2-3 years – minimum one carer for every eight children
  • 3-6 years – minimum one carer for every 10 children

Childcare Benefit (CCB) and Child Care Rebate (CCR)

Child Care Benefit AND Child Care Rebate forms are available from your local Family Assistance Office (FAO) or Centrelink. The Benefits are available to all families to assist with work related childcare expenses. To be eligible you must register your child/ren. Your benefits will be assessed according to your income level.

Placements

Offers for placement at Long Day Care Centres to commence in January are made in October/November of the prior year. Vacancies may occur at any time however and placement offers are made as vacancies arise. The following Priority of Placement criteria is used to determine which family is offered a placement:

  • Vulnerable Family/Child at risk
  • If you are both working, seeking employment or studying
  • Child from an Aboriginal family
  • Child from a Torres Strait Islander family
  • Child with a disability requiring additional assistance or other special needs
  • If you are a low-income family (ie. 100% CCB eligibility)
  • Child in non-English speaking family
  • Child in a socially isolated family
  • Child of single parent
  • Sibling at Warringah Council Long Day Care Centre
  • Date of application

Supporting documents must be presented to verify circumstances

When completing the Family Registration Form:

  • Include all details, including an extra contact person and phone numbers
  • Be flexible with your choice of days and centres - once you have a placement you may request extra days or transfer to another centre
  • Return the Family Registration Form with $24.20 registration fee to Warringah Council

The $24.20 Family Registration fee allows a family to register for any Council operated child care service or waiting list and includes updates during active use of Council's services. All fees include GST.
