Childcare

Council provides four Long Day Care centres throughout Warringah to care for children from birth to six years. Priority is given to parents living, working, or studying in Warringah. Long Day Care hours of operation vary between centres but are generally between 7.30am and 6pm.

Our centres offer an educational program developed from individual observations of children's needs and interests. All centres operate under National Accreditation principals and State licensing regulations.

All centres employ trained staff. Their qualifications include:

  • Associate Diploma childcare studies
  • Early childhood teachers
  • Early childhood specialists

The staff to child ratios in our centres are:

  • 0-2 years - one carer for every four children
  • 2-3 years - one carer for every eight children
  • 3-6 years - one carer for every 10 children

Placements

Placements are normally made at the beginning of the year. Some vacancies do arise during the year as families reduce their days or leave. The Referral and Information Officers use the Priority of Placement criteria to determine which family is offered a placement:

  • Child at risk
  • Child with special needs
  • If you are working or studying in Warringah
  • Children in non English speaking families
  • Child of single parent
  • Sibling at Warringah Council Long Day Care Centre
  • Date of application

Evidence must be presented to verify circumstances

Filling out the registration form:

  • Include all details, including an extra contact person and phone numbers
  • Be flexible with your choice of days and centres. Once you have a placement you may request extra days or transfer to another centre.
  • Return the registratino form with $50 registration fee to Warringah Council, payable by cheque. After this initial payment of $50, any new registrations will incur an additional fee.

The $50 registration fee allows you to register in both the Long Day Care and Family Day Care Services and covers all children being enrolled at this time.

A renewal fee of $20 is required in September each year to remain on the database and waitlist. All fees include GST.
