Vegetation Recycling

Q. How often is my vegetation bin collected?

A. Every two weeks from lime lidded bins only.  Do not overfill.

Q. Can I have more than one vegetation bin?

A. Yes, a maximum of four vegetation bins can be collected from any one property. To buy extra vegetation bins call Council on 9942 2111.  These cost $80 plus GST.

Q. What if I live in a block of units but would still like a vegetation bin?

A. A free vegetation bin is available for unit blocks.  Please send a request in writing, on letterhead if from the Strata Manager, or a signed letter from the secretary of the Body Corporate.

Q. What can I put in the lime lidded bins?

A. Garden waste including weeds, grass cuttings and prunings. Branches should be no thicker than 75mm in diameter. Tree stumps and logs won't be accepted. Vegetation needs to be cut down so it fits in the bin and the lid closes.

Q. What happens to my vegetation?

A. It is recycled into compost and mulch.

Q. What do I do with excess vegetation?

A. It can be taken and disposed of at Kimbriki Waste & Recycling Centre.

Q. What do I do if my bin is stolen or damaged?

A. Stolen bins will be replaced. If a bin lid is damaged this will also be replaced. Call Council on 9942 2111.

Q. Can I put my address on my bins?

A. Residents may place stickers with their house number or paint their address on the side of their bins.

Mixed Container Recycling

Q. What can I put in the yellow lidded bin?

A. Objects that can be put in the mixed container recycling bin include:

  • All plastic containers, with or without a recycle symbol, eg. plant pots, strawberry punnets
  • All steel and aluminium cans, including empty dry paint cans and aerosol cans
  • Glass jars and bottles
  • Liquid board cartons, eg. juice and milk cartons

Q. What can NOT be put in the yellow lidded bin?

A. Objects that can NOT be put in the mixed container recycling bin include:

  • plastics which are NOT containers, including:

           - plastic bags

           - cling film

           - toys

           - furniture

           - ornaments

  • Other items that can NOT be recycled include:

            - polystyrene

            - white or sheet glass

            - ceramics

All these objects should be put in the GARBAGE bin (red or dark green lidded bins).

Q. What happens to the containers that are recycled?

A. The are sorted and taken for reprocessing into new products.

Paper and Cardboard Recycling

Q. What can be put in the blue lidded bin?

A. All clean paper and crushed or flattened cardboard can be recycled in the blue lidded recycling bin.

Q. What can NOT be put in the blue lidded bin?

A. Plastic bags, wax coated cardboard, dirty pizza boxes or soiled paper - these go in the garbage bin (red or dark green lidded bins).

Garbage/Collection Days

Q. How do I find out when my collection day is?

A. A waste calendar is delivered to every residence in Warringah during Nov/Dec and May/June. However you can also find out your collection date by clicking on Waste Collection Calendar and typing your address into the fields provided.

Q. Why should I sort my waste?

A. Our local landfill space is limited. By separating waste and recycling you:

  • give new life to materials
  • save natural resources
  • reduce greenhouse gases
  • protect the quality of our soil and water
  • reduce what gets buried in landfill

Bulky Goods Clean Up

Q. How often is there a bulky goods clean up?

A. Twice a year.

Q. How do I know when the bulky goods clean up is in my street?

A. Residents are notified by letterbox drop three weeks before the collection date in their zone.  This improves safety and reduces dumping throughout Warringah.

Q. When do I place items out for collection?

A. Items should be placed out the weekend before collection date. You can be fined up to $1,500 if you put items out at any other time.

Q. Should I separate any of the items?

A. Yes, place metal items, eg white goods, in a separate pile. These will be recycled.

Q. What else could I do with items that are still good?

A. Find a new home for them by having a garage sale or giving them to a charity.

Q. What happens to items I put out?

A. They go to landfill. If you separate metals, they will be recycled.
