Warringah Youth Advisory Committee
Warringah Youth Advisory Committee is made up of young people aged 14 to 21. The committee gives recommendations to Council on youth matters as a voice for young people in Warringah. WYAC helps organise youth events such as band nights, dance parties, band comps and Youth Week activities.
Meetings
Monthly meetings are held at Warringah Mall Library meeting room from 6pm to around 7pm.
Structure
Office bearers are elected each year to the positions of
Chairperson,
Vice Chairperson,
Promotions Officer and
Admin Officer.
Warringah Youth Advisory Committee receives administrative support from Council’s Youth Development Officer and Youth and Recreation Coordinator.
Aim
Warringah Youth Advisory Committee aims to:
- provide support for young people in Warringah
- promote friendship and a sense of unity amongst young people in Warringah
- create opportunity for growth and progression of young people in Warringah
- give advice to Warringah Council on youth issues in the area
- participate in the decision making process at the Local Government level
- encourage and inspire young people
- be a representative group for local young people in Warringah
- highlight positive contributions young people make in society
- promote positive aspects of local youth culture
- provide entertainment opportunities for local young people
- work with all stakeholders in developing partnerships and a coordinated approach to youth issues
- develop and implement short and long term strategies, so that young people will feel and be respected in Warringah
- empower youth groups to initiate and participate in making Warringah a youth orientated place
- make representations to local, state and federal governments on youth issues
- help create a greater awareness of youth issues and provide the youth community with opportunities to be involved
