Band Nights

Council's Youth Services organise 10 to 12 all ages band nights each year, held at YOYOs Youth Centre or Cromer Community Centre for larger events. Band nights usually include one to two headline bands with two to three local support bands.

Band nights provide young people with safer, affordable and age appropriate evening entertainment options. The target age group is 14 to 18 years old. It is recommended that young people who attend are aged at least 14.

Council's staff and full professional security are present on the night with no drugs, alcohol or intoxicated persons permitted into the venue. There are No Pass-Outs, which means you cannot go in and out of the venue unless you choose to re-pay the entry fee, and door checks of bags etc are mandatory for patron safety.

Band nights provide an outlet for young local bands to perform live on stage. If you would like a gig, send in a demo and bio to Warringah Council Youth Services, Civic Centre, 725 Pittwater Road Dee Why NSW 2099.

One of the best opportunities for younger bands is the annual Northern Composure Band Competition – this is where we draw most of our talent from for the rest of the year even if you don’t win or even make the finals.

Council gives priority to young local bands from Sydney's northern beaches. It is rare for bands from outside the area to get a show unless they can demonstrate they have built up a significant following which would appeal to young people in Warringah. The annual Band Comp also gives priority to local bands.

If you are from outside the northern Sydney region – hassle your local Council, PCYC, youth centre, community services etc to host their own band nights! Music NSW Indent program provides funding and lots of advice on how to go about doing this.

Northern Composure Band Competition

The annual Youth Band Competition run by Warringah Council. It is open to young (average age under 19 years), unsigned bands from the northern sydney region. The Band Competition takes place during February and March each year and consists of three heats and a final. Local businesses support the competition with product, recording and rehearsal time as part of the prizes. Winning bands get the opportunity to support headline acts at future events such as YouthFest.

DiscoBility

DiscoBility is a dance party for young people with special needs. The event focuses on involving young people with special needs, aged 12 - 18 years, their carers, siblings and friends in a social event. DiscoBility encourages young people with disabilities to participate in a fun, exciting and age appropriate event. By providing a non-intimidating atmosphere we hope to familiarise these young people with such events and in the future, integrate them into regular youth events.

DiscoBility takes place once per school term, usually around the 2nd or 3rd Friday after the school holidays.

Term Program

Each school term youth workers program activities at YOYOs. These may include jam sessions, movie nights, bbq’s, pool/table tennis competitions, etc. For more info check out the gig guide
